Here are just a few of our favorite, informative reviews posted by Jailhouse guests:
At the risk of never getting my favorite room here again, I have to share that the Jailhouse Inn probably one of the best kept secrets in Newport. We stayed here 4 nights and enjoyed our time immensely. The Jailhouse Inn is historic, yet without the negative factors that sometimes accompany dated buildings. It’s clean (and I’m a discriminating traveler). The staff here are delightful & willing to accommodate. The inn appeared freshly painted; the beds and furniture were comfortable. Again, clean-clean-clean. Two thumbs up in my book! Hot tea, coffee & chocolate chip cookies were just some of the amenities we enjoyed every afternoon/evening. Our 3rd floor room also had sky lights & window seats that provided beautiful ambiance. Free parking is ample, and it’s located within walking distance of many Newport amenities. To top it all off, The Jailhouse Inn provided my favorite brand of soaps & toiletries, and my favorite selection of Harney & Sons teas. It’d be a crime to visit Newport and not stay at the Jailhouse Inn. (Yelp Review)
Stayed for a destination wedding in Newport — we were VERY pleased! Free parking for the entire stay (my friends payed 20 dollars a day at their hotel). The linens and towels are of superior quality and the bed was very comfortable. My friends payed about 50 dollars more per night and had 2 double beds in their hotel, while we had a comfortable king in a large corner room. The continental breakfast was not the usual at all, but one could make your own ham, egg and cheese sandwiches along with fresh fruit, yogurt, oatmeal and cold cereal. I loved the decor. Would return with pleasure. (Expedia Review)
The staff was very courteous, friendly, helpful, and informative. The room was great, and the location is right. You have access to a lot of Newport via the Jailhouse Inn. And the parking is easy. (Booking.com Review)
We traveled to Newport with friends for an extended weekend. We have visited this coastal city many times over the past 40 years, but this was our friends’ first visit. We chose the Jailhouse due to proximity to the wharves and restaurants. The price was very reasonable compared to other hotels and inns in the area. We parked our car and walked everywhere except to the mansions. We were warmly greeted upon arrival even though we were too early to check in. We were given a parking pass so we could leave our car and begin touring downtown Newport. When we arrived back after 3pm everything was ready for us. We found both rooms to be VERY clean, roomy and comfortable. The continental breakfast was adequate with cereals, fresh fruit, toast, english muffins, bagels, pumpkin bread, coffee and juice. The dining area was not large, but there was plenty of seating and no one waiting for a table. We enjoyed lunches and dinners at The Black Pearl (best clam chowder), The Mooring, and White Horse Tavern (across the street from Jailhouse). We visited The Breakers, Marble House, Cliff Walk, Ocean Drive, and Brenton Point Park. We could have not had better weather on this fourth week in October. It was sunny, mid sixties, with a pleasant on shore breeze. Our friends will surely visit Newport again. (Trip Advisor Review)
I am typically a big hotel kinda guy but this was a very pleasant surprise — all 23 rooms of it! The Inn is impeccably clean. Our room on the third floor had a nice big bathroom and a view of the church across the street. My wife was a little disappointed in that she thought she was getting a single queen bed and a sofa. Instead we got 2 queen beds and a chair. I didn’t mind! What really makes the inn is the location. Close enough to walk to the wharfs and all the cool shops but far enough not to be right in the middle of it. A perfect combination if you ask me. The innkeepers were friendly, and the breakfast was nice. Cable TV and free WiFi worked as promised. All in all a great experience. Our trip was to be Saturday, Sunday and Monday night. We had to leave Monday morning to get back to our home because of Hurricane Sandy. We will return at some point to finish the weekend the storm cut short! (Trip Advisor Review)
The Jailhouse Inn was a great place to stay. Our room was on the third floor (no elevator, since it is a historic building); however, the room was very large, decorated very tastefully, and quite comfortable. The location is fantastic… within walking distance of all the downtown restaurants/businesses/wharfs. We would definitely stay there again. The breakfast isn’t fancy, but adequate. The staff was very accommodating. (Trip Advisor Review)
